Divison 2 League Match

Exeter University 4th team

Tedburn lose in a 9 goal thriller as missed chances and defensive errors cost us.
What a roller coaster it seems to be at Tedburn St Mary this year! After a fantastic performance away at Beer Albion last week we lost a game we should have got more from.

We knew it may be a long afternoon without our talesman Leighton Green missing with a knee injury; that said it was good to welcome back Max Metherell back into the squad.
Another absentee was Tim Lucking who has been superb so far this year. That said Jay Hedrick did not disappoint at centre half with a goal to add to his performance.

We were definitely the better side in the opening period of this match; creating multiple chances, this was a massive positive and looked dangerous at times. The University struggled to get a foothold in the game, that said it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play. It was a sloppy goal to concede from a set piece allowing their big number 5 a free header from the corner giving the Uni a 1-0 lead. This didn’t really affect the boys and to their credit alongside Braden Morris and Chim Chinnah linking up well gave Rob Davie his first chance. Rob ran through only to be bought down by the Uni shot stopper. It was Rob who dusted himself down to take the spot kick. An unstoppable shot into the top left corner to level the scores. It was that same man again to put Tedburn 2-1 to the good for half time.

Half Time 2-1

The half time team talk was pretty positive with more of the same but we are only half way there!! Unfortunately, this wasn’t to be…. We did not defend well as a team and with some poor decisions and actions we soon found ourselves 5-3 down, it was Rob Davie who worked his socks off all game got his reward by scoring our 3rd and his hat-trick.
We did get a consolation goal with Jay Hedrick finishing a fantastic ball in from Joe Cochran’s free kick.
This is a game we need to learn from and quick if we want to retain our position in league 2. Plenty of character and effort shown by all the boys but unfortunately counts for nothing as we cannot concede sloppy goals.
We go again this week in a 6 pointer against a team just above us in the league.
